When Divock Origi headed in the goal to give Liverpool the lead, the cameras happened to pan to Zlatan Ibrahimović. The 40-year-old is well known for his ego, so his praise is hard-earned, but the finish from the Belgian seemed to earn his respect.
The Swedish veteran offered some subtle applause as the ball hit the net, a begrudging sign of respect for a very good finish. Like Salah before him, Origi made it look much easier than it was. Another Maignan save, this time from Sadio Mané, fell to the Liverpool man — he had to take it early while the goalkeeper was still out of position, so he coolly guided a header into the corner.
This rich vein of form for Origi could not be coming at a better time. He will be needed in January, when Mané and Salah leave for the African Cup of Nations: Liverpool fans are probably a bit less concerned than they were a couple of weeks ago.
