For more than a decade, the Harry Potter series has captivated fans around the world with its magical world and unforgettable characters. Among the many behind-the-scenes secrets of the films, few are as fascinating as the role played by body doubles—especially Flick Miles, the woman who doubled for Emma Watson in the first three films of the franchise.

In a rare and insightful reveal, Flick Miles recently opened up about her time as Hermione Granger’s body double, sharing memorable moments, filming challenges, and one of the most iconic scenes she helped bring to life.

From a Young Stand-In to a Memorable Role

Flick Miles began her journey in the wizarding world as a young actress and was quickly cast as Emma Watson’s body double. While Watson portrayed Hermione Granger on camera, Miles often stepped in for technical shots, wide angles, or scenes requiring heavy makeup or effects. Over time, her involvement went beyond mere stand-in work; she became part of the Harry Potter filmmaking family.

Speaking in a recent interview, Miles recalled how surreal it felt walking onto set in full Hogwarts robes and taking part in some of the film’s most memorable moments. “At the time, I didn’t fully understand how big it was going to be,” she said. “Now looking back, it’s incredible to have been even a small part of something so iconic.”

The Polyjuice Potion Cat Scene

One of the standout moments for Flick Miles was the infamous Polyjuice Potion scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In the story, Hermione attempts to transform into Millicent Bulstrode but accidentally uses a cat’s hair, resulting in her partial transformation into a feline.

What fans may not know is that Emma Watson had a mild allergic reaction to the prosthetic makeup required for the cat-Hermione transformation. As a result, the production team turned to Miles to step into the furry shoes of the half-cat, half-human version of Hermione.

“The cat makeup took about three hours to apply,” Miles shared. “Each whisker was applied individually. They even took a cast of my face to make the mask fit perfectly. It was a lot of work but I loved it.”

Her performance in that scene helped bring a magical (and slightly terrifying) moment to life, one that fans still remember vividly.

The Draco Punch – A Hidden Contribution

Another scene where Flick played a hidden but key role was the iconic moment in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban where Hermione punches Draco Malfoy. While Emma Watson delivered the punch in the final cut, Miles was involved in over-the-shoulder shots and rehearsals, ensuring continuity and camera alignment.

Though she isn’t sure her specific shots made it into the final version, Miles reflected fondly on the experience. “It was just such a cool scene to be a part of—even if it was just from a different angle.”

A New Role: Podcaster and Storyteller

Since her days on the set of Hogwarts, Flick Miles has continued her connection to the Harry Potter universe in a new and meaningful way. In 2020, she launched a podcast titled Behind the Wand: Stories From the Harry Potter Films. The show explores behind-the-scenes tales from cast and crew members, offering fans an inside look at the magic that went into making the legendary franchise.

“I wanted to create a platform for the people who aren’t always in the spotlight costume designers, camera operators, and yes, even doubles like me,” she explained. “We all had stories to tell.”

Flick Miles’s contribution to the Harry Potter films may not have always been visible, but her work was essential in crafting the magic that enchanted audiences around the globe. Her recent revelations give fans a deeper appreciation for the collaborative effort it takes to bring a fantasy world to life and shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes of film production.

As the Harry Potter legacy continues to inspire new generations, stories like Flick’s remind us that even behind-the-scenes roles can leave a lasting impact on cinematic history.
