Kylian Mbappe’s lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, has defended the youngstar’s decision to not take part in the French national team’s marketing campaigns.

Verheyden explained to L’Equipe why he has made the correct decision.

“When a player is selected for the French national team for the first time, one of the first things he does is sign a document that is given to him and that governs his rights and obligations in the national team,” she said.

“This document comes into effect when he signs it and expires five years after the end of his professional career. That is the first thing that annoys us.

“Therefore, for Kylian, it should be from his 18th birthday until his 40th birthday or so. It’s not realistic to take on such a long commitment.”

Verheyden also stated that it is important that players are able to maintain control of their image.

“It is important that players are in harmony with the advertisements in which they participate,” she said.

Verheyden further stated that players should maintain their own image.

“It is important that players are in harmony with the advertisements in which they participate,” she said.

“They have to be a role model for their young audience.

“This role should be handled with care.”
