Giant Financial institution Barclays Bank has frozen Chelsea‘s accounts after suspended their credit cards temporarily, due to the sanctions imposed by the UK Government on the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich.
This means that Chelsea can no longer sign new players and extend the contracts of any member of their squad. And also, the club will not be allowed to make profit from sales of merchandising and tickets.
This condition will limit the various activities in the club, as many of the club’s staff can not use their Barclays cards, in addition to the fact that the club can’t pay salaries as they don’t have access to those accounts.
Chelsea are hopeful that the things will improve soon and believe that the government will allow them to negotiate the sale of the club in the near future.
As reported by Marca, as ruled by the UK government, Chelsea will only be able to spend 500,000 pounds on catering, security and cleaning for home games, in addition to the fact that only season ticket holders and those who bought tickets before March 10 will be able to attend.
