Romelu Lukaku has issued  apology to Chelsea fans for the controversial interview with Skysports Italia that resulted to the striker being fined.

Sportsmail reported on Tuesday how Lukaku was being pushed into apologising for the event that has caused “noise the club do not need” over the past week.

And having expressed his regret to head coach Thomas Tuchel during heart-to-heart talks on Monday, the 28-year-old has now said sorry to the club’s supporters.

‘To the fans, I’m sorry for the upset that I caused. You guys know the connection that I have with this club since my teenage years so I totally understand you guys being upset,’ said Lukaku.

‘Obviously, it’s up to me now to restore your trust and I’ll do my best to show commitment every day on the training ground and trying to make sure we win games.
