Following the United Kingdom government’s decision to sanction Roman Abramovich, because of his relationship with Vladimir Putin and the Russian government, the European Union (EU) are now planning action against the Chelsea owner.
It is expected that EU sanctions against Abramovich will be announced this Monday, as part of the ongoing response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Diplomatic sources have confirmed this to EFE, with the 55-year-old set to be added to an EU list of sanctioned Russian billionaires.

This will only be official, though, once published in the EU’s official journal, which could happen this Monday or Tuesday.
Abramovich‘s inclusion on this new list of sanctioned people comes at a time when Portugal’s authorities are investigating potential irregularities in the granting of his Portuguese nationality, as a descendant of Sephardic Jews.
The EU is preparing to announce its latest rounds of sanctions against Russia, aimed at putting pressure on Putin and, ultimately, halting the invasion of Ukraine.
