Kyle Walker has been handed a three-match ban in Champions League for ‘assault’ ahead of the knckout stages.
The defender was given red for a reckless tackle on RB Leipzig striker Andre Silva late during City’s 2-1 defeat in December.
The continental football governing body’s disciplinary board met on Tuesday and handed Walker a three match suspension that takes in both legs against Sporting Lisbon and a potential quarter final first leg.
The 31-year-old was initially handed one-game ban but UEFA’s disciplinary panel assessment extended the purnishment to three matches for what regulations state as ‘assault’.
Pep Guardiola frowned at the sending off and stated that it as ‘unnecessary’, he also revealed that he hoped the defender ‘learns’ from the indiscretion.
‘I’m human, I make mistakes and I’m learning from that and will bounce back. Hopefully my performances between now and the end of the season can justify that and I’m picking up some silverware.’
