Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane will both miss Wednesday’s Champions League game with Young Boys.

The vastly-experienced Manchester United pair are still to recover from their recent injuries and interim boss Ralf Rangnick is not prepared to take any risks, especially with Varane, he said, because of his recent injury record.

Rangnick did confirm that goalkeeper Dean Henderson and midfielder Donny van de Beek will start though. The pair have had limited game time this season but with United already through to the last-16 as group winners, it seems like an obvious move.

Ralf Rangnick on if he will make any changes to his Manchester United side against Young Boys.

“I haven’t finally decided but it makes sense that we rest a few players due to the crowded fixture list over the next weeks and months.

“We need to keep the positive momentum and our ethos is to win games. Even if we play with a few new players or fresh players, it’s still important that we win the game. We need to make up for losing the first game to Young Boys.”

Rangnick wasn’t manager then, of course, but United lost 2-1 in Switzerland in their first group game back in September.
