Samuel Eto’o posted on his Facebook page a congratulatory message to former captain and now the new coach of Cameroon.

Former Cameroon captain Rigobert Song was appointed the head coach of the Indomitable Lions after Portuguese tactician Antonio Conceiçao was sacked on Monday.

“The upcoming deadlines for our national team require new orientations and a new breath,” Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT) said in a statement.

Song is Cameroon’s most-capped player, making 137 appearances for the national side, and played for several European clubs, among them English clubs Liverpool and West Ham, France’s Metz and Turkey’s Galatasaray.

The 45-year-old former defender was most recently the coach of Cameroon’s Under-21 team.

Cameroon is scheduled to play former AFCON champions Algeria later this month in a two-legged playoff for a place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.
